A recent data breach occurred when an unauthorised third party accessed the IT systems of Transform, part of The Hospital Group. The hospital specialises in cosmetic surgeries and consultations and the hacker group REvil claim that they were able to obtain “intimate photos of customers”.
As well as stating that they had obtained 900 GB of patient photos, the group were also claiming that they were able to obtain details such as:
- Full names and addresses
- Email addresses and contact numbers
- Medical history and GP history
- Consultation and operation history
The hackers had threatened to publish patients’ before and after photos, along with other details that could prove to be embarrasing as well as a data privacy concern.
The hospital has 11 clinics around the UK and procedures include bariatric weight loss surgery, breast enlargements and nose adjustments. Several celebrities have had cosmetic treatments at The Hospital Group, including Kerry Katona and Joey Essex, although it is not clear whether they have been affected by the hacking incident.
Some patients of Transform have been contacted by email to notify them but there may be clients who have not been informed.
